The substance is completely colourless or yellow with no mechanical impurities. Supplied in two aggregate states: crystals or as a viscous substance, more commonly used as a liquid. It is obtained by oxyethylation of ammonia and its subsequent rectification. It is divided into pure diethanolamine and technical diethanolamine. Hygroscopic. It dissolves in water, in alcohols, chloroform, benzene and acetone. It does not dissolve in liquids containing hydrocarbons.
